ILIFE V5s Robotic Vacuum Review

The latest contender to the robot vacuum category trying to unseat the ubiquitous Roomba comes from ILIFE in the form of the V5s. Entering at a much lower price point but still stacked with features, lets look at how this model measures up.

The ILIFE V5s has the typical robot vacuum features including infrared sensors for proximity, detection sensors to prevent falling down stairs, and automatically returns to its charging station when the battery is low. The multitude of sensors allow the robot to maneuver around the floor space without crashing into walls, furniture and other obstacles.

To start the robot into action, simply press the clean button located on the top of the body. The minimalist designed robot will jump into action and begin it’s cleaning trajectory, finding optimal paths to cover the maximum amount of floor space. The fixed drive wheels propel the machine over the surface being guided by two additional steering wheels. Utilizing silent technology, the noise level during vacuum operation is minimal at about 55 db.

Several cleaning modes will provide differing functions depending on the circumstances. Using the auto clean mode will instruct the vacuum to clean the entire floor space while using the spot cleaning mode will indicate to the robot that a particular area is to be the focus. This robot will manage this situation by driving in a gradually increasing circular motion while be cognizant of the designated areas that require more attention. Harder to clean areas will receive more intense coverage in this mode.

There is also an edge cleaning mode that allows the robot to follow closely and tightly to edges such as walls and corners. If this mode is negated than the robot will not wander as closely to the edges and will typically only come within six inches before retracting. Use this feature to communicate that the vacuum should stay close to the walls or edges in the cleaning area. To incorporate both spot and edge cleaning modes into the path, use the auto mode. Smart Route Planning logic will cover approximately 99% of the floor space. The ILIFE V5s will even handle floors that are not perfectly flat or have moderate slopes.

The power source comes from a 2600mAh lithium ion battery. This provides robot run time of 150 minutes to clean a floor space of 1,600 square feet. Using the automatic charging mode, the vacuum will return to it’s docking station when the battery level is low.

This robot is not just a one-dimensional affair. It also has a unique mopping mode for cleaning the floor surface after vacuuming. To activate this feature, it is first necessary to switch the dustbin for the included water tank. The container will hold 300 ml of water and will allow the robot to convert to a versatile mop, wetting and cleaning in the same manner as the vacuum function. While in mopping mode you will benefit from quieter operation than during vacuuming.

Lastly, you can use the scheduling program to automatically start you cleaning program on a pre-set time. It is possible for example to have your vacuum operate at the same time every day.
